“To protect, serve and promote the effectiveness of member companies and the independent business people they represent. To ensure that the marketing by member companies of products and/or the direct sales opportunity is conducted with the highest level of business ethics and service to consumers.”
Goals & Objetives
1.Broaden Membership: Broader membership of Committee to include more major direct selling companies
2.Code of Ethics:
•Revise the Code of Ethics to adapt with the latest version of WfDSA (in 2010);
•Continue to enhance the self-commitment to the Code of the member companies.
3.Develop relationships with Government, Business, Vietnam MLM Association and Media, and understanding on their part of the positive contributions to Vietnam’s social economic development that direct selling companies can make, especially in providing employment and business opportunities for women.
4.Position Paper(s): Address in a series of Direct Selling Committee “position papers” on amendment of the existing Decree 110 such as:
•Registration/licensing procedure for the opportunity meeting/event in Direct Selling;
•Licensing procedure for the advertising activities in cosmetics and wellness/supplement food;
•Notification procedure for promotional programs in Direct Selling;
•Other key issues raised by Committee’s Members.
5.Speakers: Identify and invite relevant and interesting speakers from Direct Selling Industries for the upcoming year. EMPHASIS in 2012 will be on building market image of Direct Selling, and highlighting the economic development potential as demonstrated by results in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, etc.
6.AVDSC page on AmCham Website: Complete and launch AVDSC page on AmCham website to introduce to other Direct Selling Associations and potential members.
7.Community event: Raise awareness and attention from members for social charity events. Collaborate with many famous charity projects to support the Vietnamese children and/or women.
8.Monthly meetings: Committee will discuss or present a topic concerning Direct Selling laws and regulations. Committee will invite a relevant speaker/VIP/guest from the competent authorities.

Additional Background
The AmCham Vietnam Direct Selling Committee cooperates with the World Federation of Direct Selling Associations (WFDSA), whose mission is to build understanding and support for direct selling worldwide. The association supports direct selling companies and associations by:
• Developing, maintaining and promoting the highest global standards for responsible and ethical conduct.
• Advocating the industry’s positions and interest with governments, media and key influencers.
• Serving as a trusted global resource for information on direct selling.
• Facilitating interaction among direct selling executives on issues of importance to the industry.
Founded in 1978, the WFDSA is a non-governmental, voluntary organization globally representing the direct selling industry as a federation of national Direct Selling Associations. The United States Direct Selling Association serves as the Secretariat for the Federation and is based in Washington DC.
Other ASEAN / Asian Direct Selling Associations
Direct Selling Association of Singapore (DSAS) is a trade association founded by a small number of legitimate and reputable direct selling companies. DSAS was gazetted on 8th October 1976. It was formed specifically to represent the interest of legitimate direct selling companies operating in Singapore. It serves as a platform for member companies to meet regularly and to discuss matters of mutual interest as well as to interact with other similar organisations in other countries.
Direct Selling Association of Malaysia (DSAM) Founded in 1978, the Direct Selling Association of Malaysia (DSAM) is a national trade association aimed at promoting the direct selling industry as well as act as the de facto voice of the industry. DSAM believes in business without borders and that direct selling is a source of empowerment for people all over the world. To this end, we are a member of the World Federation of Direct Selling Associations (WFDSA), a federation of national Direct Selling Associations (DSA’s) all over the world that subscribes to ethical business practices.
Doing Direct Selling Business in the Philippines
Indian Direct Selling Association (IDSA) Founded in 1978, The Indian Direct Selling Association IDSA is an autonomous, self-regulatory body for the direct selling industry in India. The Association acts as an interface between the industry and policy-making bodies of the Government facilitating the cause of Direct Selling Industry in India. IDSA strives to create and further an environment conducive to the growth of direct selling industry in India, partnering industry and government alike through advisory and consultative activities. IDSA catalyses change by working closely with government on policy issues, enhancing efficiency and ushering in desired credibility , clarity & confidence in Direct Selling. IDSA was formed with five companies including our current members Amway, Avon and Oriflame to protect the ideals and opportunities of what was then a sunrise industry. The Association was incorporated in Mumbai in 1996 and moved its registered office to New Delhi in 1998, from where it continues to operate. Since inception, the Association has grown to several members representing over a million independent salespeople in India and still counting.
Japan Direct Selling Association (JDSA) The Japan Direct Selling Association (JDSA), founded in April of 1980 with the support from direct selling companies and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) is the only public service corporation in Japan’s direct selling industry. JDSA has been clearly positioned within the law, and its objectives are to supervise the fair trade of direct sellers in light of the “Door-to-Door Sales Law”( renamed Specified Commercial Transactions Law in June of 2001) revised and enforced in November of 1988, to protect consumer rights at the same time as contributing to the sound growth of the direct selling industry as a whole. In addition, it is the responsibility of JDSA to fairly solve consumer complaints concerning the sales of a member of JDSA.
